Antique, an item at least 100 years old.

Ok, for an item to qualify as an Antique it must be at least 100 years old, so why is it when you walk into Antique Stores you often see items you once owned ? Maybe it's because you are 100 years old. No. Well, maybe it's because they tend to use the term loosely and if you don't know the legal definition which states," an item must be at least 100 years old" to be considered an antique they can get you to pay more money for whatever item you are interested in.

This being 2008 an item would have had to be made in the year 1908 or before to truly be considered an "Antique ". Age along does not make items " Collectibles " though. Sure age alone can make an item an antique but if no one is interested in keeping an item it is not an Antique Collectible.

So how old does an item need to be to be considered " Vintage "? For cars it's 25 years. With wine vintage has nothing to do with age. With Guns they are either "Antiques " or " Modern " there are no vintage guns by legal definition which makes your Old West Guns antiques. So what about books, bottles, toys and all those other collectibles and what is Memorabilia ? I could not find a breakdown for photos but you can be assured that any old west photo you have is considered an antique and valuable.

Memorabilia is defined as, "1. Objects valued for their connection with historical events, culture, or entertainment. " "2. Mementos of past events; souvenirs." So with Memorabilia age doesn't seem to be the overriding factor but still could include items from the "Old West" period.
