You know the Old West was a dangerous place compared to today but it was also a lot less complicated and you had a lot more freedoms. It was all about Guns, Gambling, Women and Whiskey back then. You didn't have a bunch of wacko's running around trying to protect every thing or infringing on your rights in the name of protecting their rights.
It was a time when you had better mind your own business less you find yourself pushing up daisy's. You carried a gun because you still had the right to protect yourself, others and your property. Lawyers and Politicians sure have screwed up this Country. Just imagine today, if your town formed it's own Citizens Committee. Do you think the criminals would quickly get the message and get out of "Dodge"? I think they would.
In the Old West, you also didn't have a whole segment of society living off of others either. I just don't understand the mentality of people who find it ok for the Government to tax the shit out of 80% of the population just to turn around and hand out those tax dollars to those who won't work but can or to those who have managed to enter this Country illegally. People who come to America should do it through legal means and be a productive member of our society. They should have to "become" Americans.
Back in the Old West you had newspapers that reported the news and you had newspapers that created the news. Not much has changed in that regard, except those papers today that are known to create the news are finding fewer and fewer people willing to read their garbage. I don't know if over time I just became more aware that some papers were " making up " the news or if they just started to resemble those trashy "Tabloid News " papers and it dawned on me how much they resembled each other.
I saw yesterday where NBC demoted two of their top talking heads. Boy, those two had to wonder ," What the Hell just Happened ", after all they were hired guns just doing the job they were hired to do. Same thing happened to hired guns in the Old West. The town-fathers would gather and agree to hire so-and-so to clean up the place and just as soon as the job was done (sometimes even before the job was done) they couldn't wait to run the guy out of town.
It seems that back then, for the most part, average people could see through the bullshit and make educated decisions. Today, it seems that many people either aren't paying attention, can't see through the b.s. or just plain don't care.
I find it ironic, that as America is pushed by a few towards Socialism, much of the World is turning away from it. Just how damn dumb have American's become ?
